AAPT 2000

Before deregulations AAP was one of the biggest companies in Australia to use Telecommunication through Telcom Australia (Telstra now). The AAP Group decided to form AAP Telecommunications from AAP Information Services. They used surplus bandwidth, by 'value adding' lower price STD telephone calls to the market. The deregulation of the Telecommunication market, in Australia in the late 1990s meant that AAP Group was able to form the third carrier in Australia. AAPT was floated on the Australian Stock market. AAP Group sold its final share holding in 2000. Telecom New Zealand is now the sole owner of the company, and AAPT has been removed from the Australian Stock market upon reaching a closing price of $7.00.
The companys state Branch Headquarters was located on the 7th floor at Riverside and is now situated on the 8th floor of 'Riverside Centre', with a proposed move to the ex-Telstra building in Barry Parade, Fortitude Valley at the end of March.
The first AAPT technical staff were located at Queeensland Newspapers (41 Campbell St, Bowen Hills).
AAPT through its acquistion, bought the Queensland Government company QNet and with this created the a Network section, based at Herston.
AAPT also acquired a Internet Service Provider, 'Connect.com' , with its office located on the 30th floor of the the Riverside centre.
