Yowee the Loveable

Memories left to Yowee

This was the day where we would meet relatives and visit the homes.
We packed up our gear from the edge of the Darling River.
The sun shone through the river gum and the bird life was numerous.
2 Pelicuns floated down the fast flowing river seeking breakfast from the river.
They did not get too close and flew off.
Leonard and I went for a walk along the river bank checking out the old equipment laying about trying to figure out its use.
I will be putting a separate page for this equipment and I hope someone can clarify its use.
Dunlop's "Old equipment"
Loaded up we headed back up to the shearing shed to have a shower.
Needed to start a portable generator for power to start the hot water system.
The shower was great and it was interesting playing with the very large taps.
From there we went on our way toward Louth, then onto Cobar.
Passed a place called Kerrigundi.
They have a Government Tank used for the "Long Paddock", but back in the 1950-60s they had a "Renowned" cray pads, cricket field and tennnis courts surrounded by peppercorn trees.
I have some trophies that my father won playing Tennis and Cricket there.
I don't understand how he played cricket with right hand grip and left handed stance.
We called in on my Cousin Tom at Gamble Alley.
Enjoyed a cuppa with Tom and Leonard enquired about the map on the wall, Tom then started showing the paddock sizes of the property.
I think Tom said it was 88000 acreas.
The homestead is a little different today to what it was back 60 years ago.
I learnt it was the "police station from Louth" moved from Louth to the Gamble Alley in the 1940s.
Sam, Toms son-in-law came back to the property with supplies.
We got talking and he remembered my CB handle from 40 odd years back, Victor Whiskey 131 (VW131) a club from Cowra NSW.
Leaving there we headed into Cobar, my birth town and met up with Cousin Shirley (Tom sister).
I bought out the photos and we went through them together.
We enjoyed lunch with Shirley before heading to Nyngan.
Time was against us, as I wanted to go to Mt Grenfell which was my Grandfather and Uncles property.
The farm is on Aboriginal land now.
Many years back we were invited by my Uncle Jim, to look at the cave paintings.
Uncle Jim tried to put in a dam wall and with the dam and cave painting a site for visitors.
As we left Cobar we took in the old crushers and other mining equipment used in the Copper mine.
Good news, today I heard that 2 addition mines are opening but for Silver snd Gold.
Down side is that the worker fly in and out and don't live in the community.
We arrived at Nyngan at the campsite on the Bogan River.
setup and had a good night sleep.
